Police Sergeant and Community Outreach Supervisor

Gary Hicks works as a Police Sergeant for the University of Michigan Police Department. He is also part time faculty at the Washtenaw Community College Police Academy. Further, Gary works as the Community Outreach supervisor for the University of Michigan Police Department, developing educational and safety programs for faculty, staff, and students. At Washtenaw Community College, Gary instructs Diversity, Biased Police Practices, Interpersonal Communications, Physical Training and Defensive Tactics.
Prior to working at the university, Gary was a police officer for the City of Detroit. Before working as a police officer, Gary was a High School English Teacher. He enjoyed working with the students outside the classroom as well. He coached athletes in track & field, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Gary’s always strives towards excellent physical conditioning. He practices martial arts and is a Black Belt Instructor. He spends time assisting others to reach their self -defense and fitness goals.
Gary Hicks is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a Minor in Theater/Acting. While in college he achieved status as a World Class Athlete in Track & Field.
